Reading the UK and New Zealand charity registers
How the figures for charities in England and Wales and in New Zealand on this site are taken from each country's public charity register.
- The Charity Commission for England and Wales publishes a financial history page for each registered charity. It shows total gross income and total expenditure for the five most recent financial periods, with a breakdown of income by source and expenditure by type.1
- The register displays these figures rounded to two decimal places of millions or billions of pounds, for example £293.50m. This site shows the register figures, so totals are rounded in the same way.1
- The financial history page does not show total assets. The register lists assets and liabilities on a separate page.1
- New Zealand's Charities Register publishes annual return data, including total gross income, total expenditure and total assets for each year ended, through an open data service.2
- A charity's financial year end can change. Where a register shows a change, this site shows each return with the year end the register gives.2
